The road Sendafe - Cheffe Dunsa - Debre Zaid (Bishoftu) has been decided!

The project for the road between Sendafe and Debre Zaid has now been signed. With that, Cheffe Dunsa will also be accessible via a good road, which is an important step forward for the whole region. So far, a bus for about 55km takes almost 4 hours over the very bad road. We are happy with the people of the region!

Dreadful plane crash near Menjikso Tade

We heard with sadness and shock that an Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed near Menjikso Tade. All the people on board were killed. We express our deepest condolences to all relatives, friends and acquaintances of the victims. Of course, if we can help anyone with our contacts in the area, we will do so. You can contact us via e-mail or Facebook.

Local people have erected a flower bow as a sign of sorrow and compassion. The children at the neighborhood schools also thought of the victims on the ground and expressed their compassion for the relatives.

Merry christmas wish you all Monika, Karsten, Erdaw and Rudolf
from the board of the "sunflower"!

There is still some good news:
On December 12, 2018 donations to the sunflower
rose to a total of over € 250,000!
Many thanks to all donors!

New news from Ethiopia

In May Erdaw Miko was in Ethiopia and brought us lots of news. First a picture of our transit - still doing his services for 5 years - faithfully!

In Menjikso Tade, Erdaw has launched the construction of a school building for the 9th and 10th class. The people in the village have given us the idea. For children, this is a huge advantage, because they must not wander on Mondays to Cheffe Dunsa and go back on Fridays. For the families it is a great improvement because the children can help through the week - long absences have held many parents to send children to school. So that 'our' school is even greater - currently there are just under 600:

.

The construction of the teacher accommodations is almost complete. More teachers are needed for the 9th and 10th class, we will then consider whether even more room for the teachers need to be built.

The second year of grade of the class 12 has finalized the Ethiopian secondary school in Cheffe Dunsa in 2016 – that is the same test across the country and will be assessed according to a point system in Ethiopia far. The best in point directly won the admission to study at the University. The school in Cheffe Dunsa cropped again great: this time 50 children have received a place at the University directly. Here the exact list (on the Ethiopian date must be 8 years just expect - 2008 Ethiopian is 2016 for us) also the vocational school in Cheffe Dunsa slowly goes into operation: in addition to the training for seamstress and closer there is now training in the construction industry, wood processing, in metal processing and PCs - here a first image with the guys, learn the Masons. As far as the news in brief - more news will follow as new videos...

Menjikso Tade and Cheffe Dunsa from the air

For some time now, aerial images of our region in Ethiopia are available on Google Maps. So now

you can look at our activities from above. Here you will find a small collection of maps and aerial photographs - the quality is unfortunately modest; But you can find it on Google Maps.

Walk in the footsteps of Heinrich Böll's

It is already a tradition: once in the year, Ellen invites members and friends of the sunflower to a hike. This time it was on 2 April in the footsteps of Heinrich Böll through the Bergisches Land.

The weather was perfectly this time, and not only because the hike was again a special experience!
